i watched A KITE (1998) recently and got some screenshots. this OVA clearly takes a lot of inspiration from film, and american movies. theres some really catching shots in it, and i like the lighting in a lot of it. the pictures arent that big (cause the version i downloaded had a low resolution, lol), so i'll just put the images as embeds instead of links.

took this screenshot just cause i think his drip is horrible. you can't see it, but he's wearing vertical-striped shorts that are almost tight enough to be like. biker shorts. his drip is horrible but hes an orphan so he gets a pass, i suppose

ok here are the actual good ones. i love the design of the main character, the braids with the earrings are really eye-catching (although pretty complicated to draw). the cross she wears in this is probably inspired from misato katsuragi's outfits in neon genesis evangelion, which came out before this.


i have no idea how they did this shot using animation. in the shot, the focus of the "camera" goes from Sawa (brown-haired braids girl) being in focus, and then shifting over to focus on oburi, and it looks pretty cool.

Its good qualities are very very good, and its bad qualities are pretty bad (I guess i wouldn't recommend it to people, unless with a bunch of trigger warnings. I haven't seen the dub either, so I can't vouch for the quality of it). I have mixed feelings on it, but it makes for some fucking great screenshots. the OVA era was a different time
